03/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - European sanctions enter into force. The European regulation imposing sanctions against the Libyan leader Mouammar Gaddafi and 25 of his close collaborators was published in the EU Official Journal (L58) on Thursday 3 March. This involves the immediate entry into force of sanctions decided on Monday 28 February by the 27 European Union governments. As well as affecting Colonel Gaddafi, the sanctions will also involve the freezing of assets and visa bans for seven of his sons, his daughter and his wife. The head of Colonel Gaddafi's personal security, Abdulqader Yusef Dibri, and his defence minister, General Abu Bakr Yunis Jabir, are also included on the list. EU sanctions will additionally ban arms sales to all Libyan individuals and undertakings, as well as all equipment that could be used for repressive purposes. (L.C./transl.fl).
