Brussels, 03/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - Three national registries - those of Bulgaria, Ireland and Norway - for online European carbon market transactions will re-open at 8 o'clock on Friday 4 March, the Commission has announced after careful examination of the independent security report which each of the three countries submitted for their respective registries. This will take the number of registries operating normally once again to 13, following the suspension of all online business at 7.00pm on 19 January after cyber-attacks on some of the registries.
The Commission formed the view that the three countries had given “reasonable assurances” that the minimum security requirements are in place after the attacks which cast a shadow over the integrity and reputation of the European carbon market.
The registries of Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and the United Kingdom (see EUROPE 10322) have all already been given the Commission all-clear to resume operations in the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS). (A.N./transl.rt)
