Brussels, 18/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - On 29 January this year, for the first time since its creation, the members of the Euro-Mediterranean regional and local assembly (ARLEM) will meet in plenary session in a country of the southern rim of the Mediterranean, in Agadir (Morocco), at the invitation of Mohamed Boudra, who is co-president of the assembly and president of the region of Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate.
Co-chaired by Committee of the Regions (CoR) President Mercedes Bresso, the joint assembly supports dialogue and the exchange of expertise on tangible issues between local and regional authorities on both sides of the Mediterranean. Discussions will focus on concrete matters, the CoR points out in a press release.
At the end of the month, debates will mainly be on the adoption of three reports, prepared throughout the year 2010 on: (1) local water management (Rapporteur Ramon Luis Valcarcel Siso, Murcia/Spain); (2) urban development (Rapporteur Khalid Al-Hnaifat, Grand Tafilah/Jordan); and (3) the territorial dimension in the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) (Rapporteur José Montilla Aguilera, Catalonia/Spain). Opinions will be addressed to the UfM and its secretary general, the CoR states. For further information: http://www.cor.europa.eu/arlem (G.B./transl.jl)
