Strasbourg, 18/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Responding to a request made by European Commissioner Karel De Gucht, trade ministers from the seven main actors at the WTO - Australia, Brazil, China, US, India, Japan and the EU, will hold an informal meeting on 28 January in Switzerland, in a backdrop to the World Economic Forum in Davos, which will focus on the Doha Round. John Clancy, EU Trade Spokesman for De Gucht explained in a press release: “At this stage, it is important to underline that whilst 2011 does present a real opportunity to conclude negotiations this meeting is just a first step in exploring the way forward and without prejudice to the format of any future meetings. The EU hopes that this gathering can help to build a renewed momentum to the Doha talks in the coming months that can eventually lead to a successful outcome for all sides”. Another informal meeting on the Doha Round (expanded to include other trade ministers) will also take place at the Davos Forum. (E.H./transl.fl)
