Brussels, 22/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg on Tuesday 23 November, the European Commission will adopt its communication “Agenda New Skills and Jobs: a European contribution towards full employment”, within the framework of the EU 2020 strategy. This new flagship initiative sets out where concrete action is to be taken across four main areas - making Europe's labour markets operate better, equipping people with the right skills for employment, improving job quality and working conditions, and creating jobs.
The Commission will also launch the second phase of the flexicurity agenda. This agenda sets out action to improve job mobility in the EU, such as, for example, setting up an “EU skills panorama” and developing a shared interface - European skills, competences and occupations classification - to bring the worlds of employment, education and training closer together. The Commission emphasises the need to step up reform of the labour market to improve flexicurity, through, for example, an “open single contract” which will replace the different forms of temporary and permanent contracts.
Commissioners László Andor (Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion) and Androulla Vassiliou (Education and Culture) will present the two new initiatives to the press in Strasbourg on Tuesday. (G.B./transl.rt)
