19/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Protocol on textiles for PCA with Uzbekistan. On 15 November, the Commission tabled a proposal for a Council decision on the conclusion of a protocol to the partnership and cooperation agreement (PCA) between the EU and Uzbekistan extending the provisions of their bilateral agreement on the trade in textiles. The EU-Uzbekistan PCA, which came into force on 1 July 1999 contains a provision under which its trade rules, the most favoured nation (MFN) scheme and the removal of restrictions of quantity, do not apply to trade in textiles, which is governed by a separate bilateral agreement which came into force at the start of 2000 and expired at the end of 2004. While, in practice, trade in textiles between the EU and Uzbekistan has been going on without any problems since 1 January 2005, legal security had to be assured. (E.H./transl.rt)
