EU expresses support for President Correa and democratically elected bodies in wake of botched coup d'etat

Brussels, 01/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Union has expressed concern at events in Ecuador where the military and police officers, unhappy with the passing of a law scrapping some of their seniority bonuses, attempted a coup d'état on Thursday, holding President Rafael Correa captive for several hours. The rebel police also took over the Congress and police stations in several cities in Ecuador, blocking Quito international airport for several hours. Correa was liberated on...
