Brussels, 01/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The strategic partnership between the EU and China will be the major theme in discussions at the 13th annual bilateral summit between the two partners in Brussels on 6 October, the day after the ASEM summit. Representing the EU, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will discuss global issues (global governance, climate change and energy security) and international (Afghanistan, Pakistan and nuclear non-proliferation) and regional (Korean peninsula, and tension between China and Japan security) security with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. A Community source has said that, in terms of economic and trade relations, the EU will focus on issues relating to the exchange rate of the yuan, market access, protection of intellectual property, opening up public procurement and market economy status.
