Brussels, 01/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - As part of the European Job Days organised in over 200 European cities between mid-September and mid-October 2010, the Brussels European Job Day will take place on Saturday 2 October. For the third consecutive year, the event is being held at the European Commission's headquarters, the Berlaymont building. This year, the emphasis will be on matching skills to the needs of the labour market, particularly for young people. Over 80 recruiting companies and organisations active in employment and thousands of European citizens have responded to the Commission's invitation to meet at the Berlaymont.
“One of Europe's biggest challenges today is employment, especially of young people. We have five million Europeans under 25 in the labour market looking for work, but who cannot find a job,” said European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor. He added: “Job Days are open to everyone and enable job seekers to take part in interviews on the spot, serving as a hands-on complement to the EURES (European job network) job network”.
People wishing to take part can pre-register (http://www.jobdays.eu ) and check which vacancies correspond best to their skills and abilities. Around 1,000 vacancies were filled as a direct result of the event last year. The Job Day provides actual access to over 950,000 job vacancies in the EURES-online corner, and direct interaction with more than 50 EURES employment advisers from 21 countries. Forty-three employers will provide recruitment opportunities, with over 1,500 vacancies on offer. (L.C./transl.rt)
