01/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Congress of European Farmers will take place in Brussels on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 October, under the aegis of the EU committees of farmers' organisations and agricultural cooperatives, Copa and Cogeca. The theme will be “The common agricultural policy (CAP) post-2013: a fair and stable income for farmers”. The sector is being “confronted with more and more challenges, notably extreme price volatility, costly regulations and obligations as well as the fight against climate change,” Copa-Cogeca state. Moreover, they add, “trade liberalising talks with the Latin American trade bloc Mercosur have re-started which could have a devastating impact on the EU agriculture sector”. “A strong CAP, which maintains direct payments to farmers, is consequently more important than ever,” they argue.
