Asia beats records for companies creating shareholder value. - According to the most recent study by the Boston Consulting Group, which draws up a list of companies that create the most shareholder value in the world, Asia is beating all the records in this respect and the Top 10 of companies is exclusively made up of companies from this continent. No European or US group has made it into the Top 10 since the study was launched in 1999. Five of the companies are Chinese, two from Hong Kong, one from South Korea, one Indian and one Indonesian. The listing is as follows and takes into account the stock market and dividends performance over a five-year period: 1) Tencent (Hong Kong); 2) Jindal Steel & Power (India); 3) Suning Appliance (China); 4) OCI (South Korea); 5) Sany Heavy Industry (China); 6) Tingyi (Hong Kong); 7) Changsha Zoomlion Heavy Industry (China); 8) Kweichow Moutai (China); 9) TBEA (China); 10) Perusahaan Gas Negara (Indonesia). The creation of shareholder value (measured by “Total Shareholder Return”) is more than 80% for the first three companies in the list, as opposed to a global average of 6.6% for all of the 712 companies in the survey, explains the study. The previous Top 10 also contained four companies from the developing world. Similarly, groups from emerging markets dominate 13 of the 14 segments of activity examined by the study (the financial sector was not evaluated). The pharmaceutical and medical technologies was the only segment that did not contain a group from an emerging market in its Top 10. (I.L./transl.fl)
