Brussels, 13/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - What is the cohesion policy against the backdrop of a crisis exit strategy and what will it be in the perspective of the EU 2020 strategy? These are the questions which will be put to the debate in the internal workshop on the “Role of Cohesion Policy Instruments in the Recovery and Growth of the European Economy”, to take place in Brussels on Wednesday 15 September. Among those taking part will be the president of the committee on regional development of the EP, Danuta Hübner (EPP, Poland), the European commissioner for regional policy Johannes Hahn and the deputy president of the EPP and coordinator of the CRIS committee (special committee on the financial, economic and social crisis) Othmar Karas (EPP, Austria). Commissioner Hahn's opening address will focus on the cohesion policy in the framework of the EU 2020 strategy. Also taking part will be Fabrizio Barca, the general director at the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and special advisor to the European Commission, and Rudolf Niessler, the director of DG Regional Policy of the European Commission, and the president of the EPP Group at the Committee of the Regions, the German Michael Schneider.
