Brussels, 13/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU is making 110 million dirham (just under €10 million) available to Morocco to be used for the country's literacy strategy support programme. On 8 September, European Ambassador Eneko Landaburu and Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Salaheddine Mezouar signed the codicil formalising the commitment. Landaburu said that “Morocco has made great progress over the last few years in tackling illiteracy,” but it has to keep working. “It is to consolidate this drive towards ever greater modernisation and progress that the EU decided to increase its initial contribution to the Moroccan literacy strategy by 110 million dirham, raising the EU input to 297 million dirham for the period from 2008 to 2013,” Landaburu went on (€1 = 10 dirham approximately).
