Brussels, 23/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Rabat on Monday 22 February, European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and Moroccan Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri discussed ways to strengthen the economic and trade cooperation links between the EU and Morocco. Discussions mainly bore on the advanced status granted by the EU to Morocco last year, the area of free trade between the two partners, and the agreement recently sealed in the fishing, agriculture and agri-foods sectors. Fassi Fihri told the press that the EU and Morocco are also currently engaged in negotiation on services, with a view to the EU/Morocco summit in Grenada on 6 and 7 March. Finally, De Gucht and Fassi Fihri spoke of the Agadir agreement, which has linked Morocco to Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia since 2007, within a free trade area for promoting investment and trade via the harmonisation of regulations and the elimination of customs duties on all industrial goods, as agricultural products are not subject to total liberalisation.
