Commission publishes 2008 activities report

Brussels, 30/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 27 October, the European Commission published its report to the European Parliament on EU trade defence activities (antidumping, anti-subsidies and safeguards) in 2008. According to the Commission, 2008 saw a significant increase in the number of new investigations compared to the previous year, as well as an increase in the number of definitive measures imposed. The number of investigations closed without measures being adopted, however, decreased, as well as the number of provisional measures imposed. The general level of re-examinations concluded or completed fell compared to the 2007 levels. The Commission also points out that it was generally admitted that at the beginning of 2008 (EUROPE 9580), the Trade Defence Instruments (TDI) process requires greater reflection to help increase consensus on how TDI work. Finally, the Commission underlines that its services have constantly ensured that the rights of all parties are taken into account in procedures. It explained that 2008 was the first complete advisor-auditor activity year. Backed up by a more comprehensive working document, the report is available at: http: //eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=COM: 2009: 0573: FIN: FR: PDF. (E.H.)
