07/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - To assist Myanmar, devastated by the Cyclone Nargis, the European Commission is to provide €2 million in emergency humanitarian aid to help meet the needs of the survivors in the south of the country. The fast-track decision by ECHO, the Commission's humanitarian arm, to make funding available within 72 hours was taken on 5 May. This initial aid will help provide shelter and drinking water. Experts from ECHO's regional offices in Bangkok and New Delhi are currently being deployed to support the Commission's office in Yangon. (A.N.)
