Brussels, 07/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - €300 million over five years: that is how much the European Commission is ready to disburse to help the recovery and development of Sudan, in support of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in December 2004 between North and South Sudan. European Development Commissioner Louis Michel made the announcement at the third conference of the Sudan Consortium, that was set up in 2005, in Oslo on Tuesday 6 May. He also highlighted that, “It is important that progress is made in the effective and timely deployment of UNAMID (the UN and African Union hybrid operation in Darfur) and that all parties engage genuinely in the peace process”.
