22/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The International Movement ATD Fourth World expresses concern in a press release about the lack of coverage given to fighting poverty in the conclusions of the Spring European summit on 8-9 March. It considers the fight against poverty and social exclusion must come under an overall approach - both economic and social - and cannot just be treated from the angle of improved employment. That is why, it continues, the Union must set itself targets that are more precise and aimed more at combating poverty. Without a resolute effort for full participation of persons in a situation of exclusion, the general way in which our societies are going will continue to widen the gaps between countries and undermine social links without there being peace or security for all, ATD concludes.
