30/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, Commissioner Franco Frattini condemned the murder, in Liège (Belgium), of Stacy Lemmens and Nathalie Mahy, aged seven and ten years respectively. “The whole of Europe must express its indignation and horror” at the crime, Mr Frattini said, adding that he hoped the investigations would bring those responsible to justice. The Commissioner seized this opportunity to recall that only five countries out of the EU25 have transposed into national law the 2003 framework decision relating to combating the sexual exploitation of children and child pornography (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands and Spain). He stressed the “duty” of the other Member States to transpose the decision into their body of law. As announced earlier, Mr Frattini also said that the Commission will, on Tuesday, suggest that the College of Commissioners adopt a European Charter on Children's Rights (EUROPE 9200).
