12/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Round Table of Industrialists, ERT, together with five similar associations from the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico and Japan, have launched a joint appeal to the member countries of the WTO to step up their efforts in order successfully to conclude the Doha Round. The industrialists feel that for elements will be vital to ensure the success of the negotiations: - agriculture: an end to export subsidies, very strict thresholds for domestic aid and a significant reduction of import duties and other obstacles to trade; -industrial products: elimination, or substantial reduction, of import duties; -services: it is "inconceivable" for the Doha Round to be concluded with no agreement on the liberalisation of trade in services; -trade facilitation: -reducing the costs of trade is to the advantage of everybody (exporters, producers and consumers).
