Brussels, 12/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the European Commission will be suggesting to Member States to extend until 2010 the current trade preferences the EU has been granting to the Western Balkans for the past five years. The trade preferences, which would otherwise run out at the end of the year, are granted to the following Western Balkans countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Macedonia (including Kosovo), and grant duty-free access for virtually all goods. The only products not covered by the preferences are wine, certain fisheries products, sugar, veal ('baby beef') and textile products from Montenegro and Kosovo. The Commission's proposal will be discussed at the Council in the next few weeks and the new regulation will come into force on 1 January 2006.
