12/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, has sent a warm telegram of congratulations to the Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, for his "decisive victory" in the lower house elections of 11 September. "This is, I believe, a major personal success for you, but it is also a strong signal of support from the Japanese Public for your policies to renew Japan politically and economically", Mr Barroso wrote to Mr Koizumi, adding: "I look forward to working with you in the future and building on the considerable progress already achieved in strengthening our bilateral relations and cooperation (...). This includes strong EU support for your objective of doubling the stock of foreign investment in Japan and working together to implement our ITER project". José Manuel Barroso went on to write that "as I told you when we met at the EU-Japan's summit in May, I'm eager to raise our political cooperation to the same level of intensity as our economic relationship".
