04/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - In a visit on Thursday to the Land of Saxony, one year after this region of Germany, which was badly hit by floods, was granted 245 million euros from the European Solidarity Fund, Commissioner Michel Barnier emphasised the fact that these funds "have allowed many of the emergency measures taken at the time of the flooding to be reimbursed: temporary accommodation for those affected, electricity and food supplies and making areas safe by strengthening dykes". He welcomed the fact that the Land's authorities are prepared to let the Commission have the Phoenix software they developed to manage financial aid to victims, for use in other disasters.
