16/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - Christa Randzio-Plath, Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, considered that, one year after the introduction of the euro, "it is now high time for the introduction of a one-euro banknote in order to facilitate greater public understanding of the currency". The German Social Democrat recalls that, from the outset, the European Parliament had voiced opposition to the introduction of too many euro coins "because the use of banknotes makes for a better appreciation of prices, thus leading to less inflation". "The one-dollar-bill is recognised by everybody. A one-euro banknote would signal that the euro and the US dollar are equals", Ms Randzio-Plath said.
