GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/foot and mouth

09/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EU's Standing Veterinary Committee (SVC) decided on Tuesday evening to relax some of the export restrictions imposed on the United Kingdom following foot and mouth disease. Only Northumberland will not now be allowed to export life pigs or pork, beef, goat and sheepmeat. The export of live goats and sheep remains prohibited from the whole of the UK. The outbreak of classical swine fever seems to be under control in Spain and the SVC has passed a resolution reducing the area in Spain from which the export of live pigs and pig semen, ova and embryos is banned. The restrictions in Catalunya will now only apply to the provinces of Barcelona and Gerona.
