Hermange Report on Social Agenda

Brussels, 09/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Marie-Thérèse Hermange (EPP-ED, France), on the Scoreboard for Implementation of the Social Policy Agenda, the European Parliament's Committee on Social Affairs affirmed that it plans to make the scoreboard a "strategic instrument for monitoring the implementation of the Agenda and for adjusting it where necessary". Stressing the "innovative nature" of the Agenda, the rapporteur (RPR member) was nonetheless somewhat critical when noting that: - the question of sharing tasks between the actors is only treated in a superficial way; - there is no detailed analysis on the strategic question of means allowing partnerships to be strengthened and improvements to be made to the existing decision-making and consultation structures. By way of conclusion, Ms Hermange feels it is appropriate to see the first scoreboard as an opportunity to improve the process for implementation of the social policy Agenda.
