Industrial production prices fall in November

Luxembourg, 09/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to Eurostat statistics released on Tuesday, industrial production prices fell by 0.4% in November 2001 compared to prices in October. European Union prices (EU15) fell by 0.3%. In October the level fell by 0.7% in the Euro-zone and by 0.5% in the EU as a whole. The year on year level rate for industrial prices in November 2001 fell by 1.3% in the Euro-zone and by 1.1% in the EU15. These are the steepest falls to be registered since June 1999.

Between October and November 2001, energy prices fell by 2.2% in both the Euro-zone and EU as a whole. Non-consumer durables fell by 0.1% in the same period in the Euro-zone and remained unchanged in EU15. Prices fell in every country except the United Kingdom. The steepest falls were recorded in Portugal (-2.5%) and Luxembourg (-1.9%).

In yearly terms, energy prices fell by 9.6% in the Euro-zone and by 9.7% in the EU15, while prices for consumer durables and consumer non-durables rose respectively by 1.7% and 2.4% in the Euro-zone and by 1.4% and 2.3% in the EU15. Annual rates were negative in all Member States except Sweden, 3.1%, Ireland and Luxembourg 0.6% respectively and in Germany 0.1%. The strongest falls were recorded in Portugal -7.9% and the Netherlands -3.2%.
