28/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - For the General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Emilio Gabaglio, "by providing a broad brief to the Convention, the Laeken Declaration rekindles an ambitious European project. It is up to the Convention to put this potential into practice, and that will only be possible with the determined commitment of all forces that believe in the project". Satisfied that the European social partners have been associated in the work as observers, Mr. Gabaglio said that ETUC "will continue to galvanise the world of work to secure the fundamental reforms needed to fill the EU's democratic and social deficit and to provide it with the means to act in view of the indispensable regulation of globalisation".
