Initiative of Centre Robert Schuman Pour l'Europe

Luxembourg, 28/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - In the current period of growing tension between Israelis and Palestinians, the Centre Robert Schuman Pour l'Europe, headed by Bernard Zamaron, has launched an appeal for dialogue, recalling that Golda Meir, Israeli Prime Minister, had said in Strasbourg on 1 November 1973: "The time will come when our area will duplicate what Europe has done. Together we will sit down and (…) together we will build our area of real co-operation…". "That time has come!", says Bernard Zamaran, proposing an "overall and constructive" agreement, comprising, in particular: - the institution of a Schuman Plan for water between Israel, Palestine and neighbours wanting to take part (Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), on the model of the Coal and Steel Community; - the institution of a progressive and regulated common market, on the model of the European Economic communities; the institution of the capital of the Palestinian State in "the Arab part of Jerusalem". (The seat of the Centre is located in Scy-Chazelle, in the house in which Robert Schuman lived and died. E-mail of Mr. Zamaran: c.r.s.luxembourg@pt.lu. Tel: (352) 66 74 98. Fax: 92 14 05).
