13/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - Around sixty MEPs signed an appeal on Thursday calling for the Laeken Summit to allow differences to be overcome and for the European programme on satellite navigation, Galileo, to be initiated immediately (see above for the letter from President Prodi). The Presidency, however, has not included this theme on the agenda of the Summit and the European Commission still threatens to withdraw the project if there is no significant move forward in the near future. The appeal was mainly signed by French Socialist Gilles Savary, Enrique Baron, Hans-Gert Pöttering, and Pat Cox, Presidents of the Socialist Groups of the EPP-ED and Liberal Groups.
