13/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the EU 15 discussed the contributions to a possible international security force in Afghanistan, but worked towards concluding that they are prepared to examine their possible contributions in the framework of resolutions from the United Nations Security Council. The General Affairs Council also welcomed the signing, in Bonn on 5 December, of the agreement defining the provisional arrangements for Afghanistan. The EU 15 also noted that the EU will chair, on 21 December in Brussels, the next meeting of the steering group on the reconstruction of Afghanistan. This meeting will aim to establish arrangements for the concrete and long-lasting co-ordination relating to the assessment of needs, the identification, implementation and follow-up of assistance, and to fine-tune the mechanisms to channel financial assistance.
