13/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - A high-level OECD meeting will be held on 17/18 September to discuss problems facing the steel industry, including global over-capacity and policy options for global capacity reductions. The meeting will be attended by members of the OECD Steel Committee and observer countries, as well as other key steel producers. The meeting will begin with a discussion between representatives of government and industry to assess present and future market prospects in the current steel market situation and will agree on concrete actions to facilitate reduction of global excess capacity, launch negotiations on rules that will govern steel trade in future and eliminate market distorting practices such as subsidies.
