Brussels, 13/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission decided to give one more month in which to reply to its consultation on the industrial market for industrial goods, launched on 28 June. Companies therefore have until 15 October to inform the Commission of obstacles regarding intra-Community trade. This consultation aims to identify the barriers to the free movement of goods within the EU and to draw up an inventory of the best ways to adjust the regulation to innovation and technological change. The responses received so far in Brussels indicate that the main difficulties encountered by companies regarding intra-Community trade are administrative demands, certification procedures and environmental regulations while difficulties encountered in trade with third countries mainly concern customs issues and labelling. The Commission plans to present the results of its investigation by the end of this year, then an action plan for 2002 and beyond. The plan should comprise measures to improve the current technical provisions for harmonisation of industrial products and management of internal market acquis, and to promote a new Community approach in sectors undergoing great change.
