24/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council of Ministers adopted by qualified majority, without debate (and with opposition from the Swedish delegation) a decision relating to Community spending in the veterinary area. The Fifteen amended the annex to the 1990 decision, which provides for the possibility of a Community financial contribution for the eradication and surveillance of animal diseases in order to add: - infectious salmon anaemia, a new disease that first appeared in the Community in 1998; - blue tongue in the endemic regions or high risk regions, a viral disease affecting sheep, goats, cattle and other ruminants.
