EU membership is "vital national aim" assigned by Siméon de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha to new Bulgarian government

Sofia, 24/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The former King Simeon II seized the opportunity provided by his speech to the Bulgarian parliament on Tuesday prior to his government's investiture to describe membership to the European Union as a "vital national aim". To achieve this, Bulgaria must meet the Union's political and economic criteria, stressed Mr de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha before saying:
