Eastern Europe still has substantial room for manoeuvre. - With an average rate of growth of 47% in 2013, E-commerce in Eastern Europe grew substantially, according to an announcement made by the Ecommerce Europe association in its most recent report. Eastern Europe made the most progress last year. In 2013, E-commerce turnover in the region reached €19.3 billion, 7% of total online turnover throughout Europe. Online turnover forecast in 2014 of €23 billion, indicates, however, that there is still a wide margin for manoeuvre for online e-commerce in the region, where there were only 34 million online purchasers from the region out of the 135 million Internet users who do their shopping on the Internet. With online turnover of €15.5 billion, Russia heads the list in this area (24 million Internet users out of a total of 84 million who made online purchases). Ukraine is lagging significantly far behind with €1.8 billion, followed by Romania €1 billion. In Russia, the average of online spending per person stood at €646 in 2013, as opposed to €617 in Ukraine and €400 in Romania. (IL)
