15/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - EGF mobilised in Spain and Italy. On Tuesday 15 April, the European Parliament gave its green light to the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for up to €3 million for Italy and up to €1.9 million for Spain, following the recommendations of the European Commission in early March (see EUROPE 11033). The Parliament nevertheless deplored the slow speed with which the Commission has handled these two cases: 19 months in the Italian case and 22 months in the Spanish case. It also criticised a point in the support plan for the 1,146 former employees of the television manufacturer VDC Technologies SpA and its Cervino Technologies Srl subsidiary in Italy. This plan does not include any specific measure targeting older workers, although 40% of the employees made redundant in this company are over 55. In Spain, the EGF will come to the support of 285 former employees of the automobile manufacturer Grupo Santana, in Andalusia. (JK)
