Brussels, 15/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) is calling on EU countries and partner countries from the southern Mediterranean to “pay more attention to the Western Sahara issue”. They also deplore the fact that “the issue of human rights” in this disputed territory “is not the subject of any particular or coherent attention from the international community”. The EMHRN is calling for the setting up of permanent human rights safeguard mechanisms in the Western Sahara and considers that expanding the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara's (MINUSO) areas of responsibility “corresponds perfectly to the situation in this region and the nature of this mission”.
