15/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - Drought in Cyprus. The Cypriot delegation, supported by Greece, Spain and Portugal, reported to the Agriculture Council of Monday 14 April on the consequences on agriculture of the drought which hit Cyprus this winter. The Cypriot delegation called on the Commission to propose appropriate measures, including the possible use of the crisis reserve laid down by regulation 1306/2013 on rural development. The Commission listed the measures available: - option of using the crisis fund, if the conditions are met; - insurance and mutual systems; - a measure allowing the agricultural potential to be recovered; - specific prevention measures; - for wine and fruit and vegetables, funding of risk management and harvest insurance (fruit and vegetables sector); - state aid (including de minimis aid).
