10/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - Satellite launch - EU27 call on Pyongyang to comply with its international obligations. Deeply concerned at North Korea's declared intent to launch a “working satellite” between 10 and 22 December, the Foreign Affairs Council called on Pyongyang on 10 December to immediately stop proceedings for this launch and to comply fully with its international obligations. The EU would consider this launch “a provocative act, jeopardising diplomatic efforts in the pursuit of lasting peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and the broader region”, the ministers explain in their conclusions. They added that the launch would merit “a clear international response”, in conjunction with United Nations Security deliberations, “including possible restrictive measures”. The ministers also called on North Korea to re-engage constructively with the international community on the nuclear issue in order to work towards “lasting peace and security” on the Korean peninsula.
