03/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - Ashton welcomes release of four ICC members. On Monday 2 July, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton welcomed the release of the four staff members of the International Criminal Court (ICC) who had been held in Libya since 7 June while in the country on official business. Ashton commended “the efforts of all who have worked patiently to achieve this result”. The four ICC members were arrested when going to see Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi. The Libyan authorities accused them of jeopardising national security. The release comes after an agreement between Libya and the ICC, which has pledged to conduct its own investigation into the affair and to keep Tripoli informed, Libyan authorities said. (CG/transl.rt)
