Brussels, 03/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 3 July, the European Commission cleared acquisition of Cable & Wireless Worldwide Plc (CWW) by Vodafone Group Plc, two companies that provide fixed and mobile telecommunications services. The deal, notified on 29 May this year, gives rise to overlap in a number of markets in the fixed and mobile telecommunications sectors in the United Kingdom. It also gives rise to a number of vertical relationships in those sectors mainly in the UK and Ireland, as Vodafone would be able to use the assets of CWW to deliver fixed/mobile combined services to end-users. The Commission reached the conclusion, however, that the parties' activities are largely complementary and that they would not give rise to any competition concerns or prevent effective competition within the European Economic Area (EEA).
