19/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Romania wants swift decision on Schengen. Romania hopes that a decision on its entry into the Schengen area can be taken during the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union, Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi announced on Wednesday, quoted by the news agency AFP. “We have done our homework and the seven expert assessment reports confirm that we are ready”, he added. Initially, Bucharest hoped to join Schengen at the end of March, but France and Germany opposed this, as they opposed Bulgaria's joining, calling for “irreversible progress” in the war on corruption and justice reforms. Baconschi spoke out against the “false arguments” and “artificial links” invoked by Paris and Berlin to delay their entry. “We would like Europe to respect the rules of the game and not employ double standards for the newcomers”, the minister stressed, adding that if this was the case, “it could turn the Romanians Euro-sceptic”.
