19/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Families of Battisti's victims at European Parliament. On the eve of the European Parliament debate, on Thursday 20 January, on the draft resolution on the extradition of Italian terrorist Cesare Battisti, which Brazil refused at the end of December, Alberto Torregiani, the son of one of the victims who himself has been left paraplegic following the hold-up which cost his father his life, has said that France, which at one time refused to extradite Battisti “can still repair its mistake and add its voice to Italy's in calling on Brazil to extradite Battisti”. Torregiani, accompanied by sons and brothers of the victims, Maurizio Campagna, Adriano Sabbadin and Alessandro Santoro, added that he would forgive Battisti, “if he accepts his sentence”. He said: “The victim is always able to forgive, if the guilty person gives him the opportunity and shows remorse”. The draft resolution was put by all the Italian political groups represented in the European Parliament. (Gp/transl.rt)
