Brussels, 02/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - According to Eurostat estimates published on Thursday 1 October, the seasonally adjusted rate of unemployment in the eurozone stood at 9.6% in August 2009 compared to 9.5% in July and 7.6% in August 2008. In the EU27, the unemployment rate was 9.1% in August 2009 compared to 9% in July and 7% in August 2008. This is the highest rate in the eurozone since March 1999 and in the EU27 since March 2004, a Eurostat press release points out.
