03/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Last week, as part of a joint fact finding mission, the Bulgarian police, with the support of the Spanish police, Europol and Eurojust, dismantled a gang in Bulgaria manufacturing counterfeit euro notes, Europol announced on Thursday 2 July. Seventeen persons have been arrested and the counterfeit notes amounting to a value of around €400,000 have been seized. Printshops as well as raw materials have been found. Since 2005, forgers are said to have distributed 82,000 false notes in Europe worth €100, €200 and €500, amounting to €16 million. Furthermore, the Polish announced on Wednesday that it had dismantled the largest production workshop for counterfeit euros and zlotys ever found in Poland, and has arrested three forgers, AFP reports. Three men have been arrested and a complete production line of forged notes worth 100 zlotys and €50 has been discovered. (B.C./transl.jl)
