Proposed acquisition of Essent by RWE is cleared, subject to conditions

Brussels, 24/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 23 June, the European Commission authorised the planned acquisition of Essent (Netherlands) by RWE (Germany). Both companies are active in the electricity and gas sectors. The Commission's decision is conditional upon RWE's commitment to divest Essent's controlling shareholding in Stadtwerke Bremen AG (SWB).
