11/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - Louis Michel, the European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, has voiced his regret that the Mandate Darfur Conference, which was to have brought together representatives of the civil society from each community in Darfur, with a view to creating a mandate for peace, has been cancelled. "I'm saddened that the organisers of the 'Mandate Darfur' conference have felt obliged to cancel this event due to travel restrictions imposed on certain delegates by the Sudanese authorities. This conference have the potential to be a valuable and promising contribution to the efforts made by the international community to bring lasting peace to the region", said the Commissioner in a press release published on 8 May.
