Brussels, 17/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has decided to postpone until the final plenary session of the current Parliament the vote on the Hoppenstedt Report on the creation of an EU programme to finance the work of the three EU committees of national regulators (CESR, CEBS and CEIOPS), other accountancy bodies (IASCF, IASB PIOB) and the financial information organisation EFRAG. The vote has been postponed until the May plenary, explained sources close to Karsten Friedrich Hoppenstedt (EPP-ED, Germany). The main areas where the EP and the EU Council of Ministers will need to reach agreement are the budget and duration of the EU funding programme. The Council has endorsed the European Commission's suggestion of setting up a programme with funding of €36.2 million in 2010-2013 (see EUROPE 9826). The European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee wants more EU funding, set at €60 million, for 2010 to 2012 inclusive. The Larosière Report on EU financial supervision suggested the CESR, CEBS and CEIOPS should be turned into EU authorities responsible for micro-prudential supervision in 2012, explain sources close to the rapporteur. The next informal talks between the Commission, Parliament and Council on this issue will take place on Wednesday 22 April 2009. (M.B./transl.fl)
