08/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - The EU Committee of the British House of Lords published a particularly interesting report on 24 March on the British opt-out in the filed of justice and home affairs. Taking as a starting point two real cases relating to European legislation on asylum and the hosting of refugees, the Committee notes that situations of legal insecurity may arise from: (1) the government's choice not to sign up to any changes in the European regulations that it had earlier agreed to introduce into the United Kingdom, and (2) codification of European legislation. In this second case, the report invites the European Commission to ensure that, in the codified text which brings together several legal instruments, it is specified which parts apply to the United Kingdom and which do not.
